Much has been stated in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the web version of this quintessential game offer a salvation, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar relative?

Bingo has been an enduring game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the smoking ban across Britain.

No more will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common areas where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not cast aside this classic game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can bet on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course wagering on on the web is unlikely to replace the social part of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the law has left many bingo players with little alternative.
