Oklahoma has for a long time been interrelated with Bingo. This is because the Native bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for decades. Clients from many of the neighboring states pile in vehicles and travel to Oklahoma to play Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a landmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. From that instance, 23 of the 39 Native tribes located in Oklahoma have established gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Amerindian band to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today operate ten gambling halls of their own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were founded. Electronic games like one armed bandits were not approved, since they’re believed to contribute to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules have changed to permit massive Indian betting gambling halls. You’ll now see Indian gambling dens with slot machines, video poker and vingt-et-un tables. Craps and roulette are still not approved in the Amerindian gambling dens as of yet, although that is only a waiting game. Nobody can say whether having other gambling den games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
