An abundance has been written in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the web version of this classic game offer a salvation, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo is an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law around England and Wales.
No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite places where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Players realize that they can wager on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course playing on the internet could never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
